Yeap! You got that right!

We got them not-so-easily available kendama in-stock now! In very limited units...and they are running out fast!

Rokurosen Blue for RM100.00 a piece.

First up, an extension from the Shin Fuji Family, the Rokurosen is the lightest and the most beautiful variation of all. These are not produced in volumes to the likes of the Oozora or the TK16s because it is usually presented at special events and competitions. There are other colour schemes to the Rokuresen line; red, purple, black & yellow but again, it is rare to find.

Shin Fuji Gold for RM120.00 a piece & Silver for RM110.00 a piece.

Another batch from the Shin Fuji family, the Gold & Silver Shin Fujis are also light and fun to play with. These are not stock colours, but the finishing and durability of the paintwork will survive heavy playtime.

SMILE Kendama for RM125.00 a piece

The SMILE comes from the very same fore-fathers of the Shin Fuji & Oozora. Designed by Yusaburo, the originator of the Yamagata Koubou and JKA approved, but not for competition purposes. It is slightly difficult to play at the beginning due to the extra cups and the string positioning, but guarantees you new tricks and variations.

Keyaki at RM195.00 per piece & Enjyu at RM220.00 per piece

These are pure collectors, the Premium Hardwood Kendama from Yamagata Koubou. As they claimed, Hear The Difference...

The Keyaki is made from the Japanese Zelkova tree, which is a type of elm tree. Fine grained hardwood, with a golden honey colour and good texture.

The Enjyu is a more expensive model since it is made from the Japanese Pagoda tree. It has a darker feature, with veins of grey-brown running through it.

Both these Premium Hardwoods have great durability and you'll be amazed on how good it still looks after hours of play.

So yeah, these are rare stuffs compared to the ones we usually have. Drop your enquiries, reservations & orders today coz they are moving fast!

Just got this sample straight from Europe, thanks to Mirek of Kendama.cz.

How does it feel like?
- The paint job looks great!
- Overall design & wood feels like the TK16, slightly harder than the Oozora

Period, this is an up-to-par Kendama alongside the Japanese JKA Kendamas.

Durability still in question, but we'll soon find out! Haha!

Yeap, the much anticipated arrival of the Shin Fuji Kendamas are here!

Of course, they don't come alone. They came together with their younger brother, the Oozora.

The Shin Fuji is a classic kendama, known as the predecessors of the present Oozora because it was made by the same people.

The Shin Fuji Ball is made with Cherry, while the handle is beech. Note that the JKA Seal is in black, compared the Oozora in orange.

Of course, I gave them a shot and it was good...The paint work is not so slippery, so you'll land those lighthouse easily and the tip of the spike is more rounded, helps a lot in getting the ball to slot in.

Overall, I am liking the Shin Fujis...and watchout for the next edit! HaHa!

Grab them now as they are only available in limited numbers. They come in their original packaging, including 1 set of spare string and instruction manual (in Japanese of course)

UrbanScapes 09: Kendama Meets Malaysia!

HaHa,

We came, we saw, we conquered! Everyone who came over our booth had a dose of how cool it is to Kendama!

Memen, Elmi & Myself started our day early...got to site at about 9am, got stuck looking for our booth location, but by 10am we started unpacking and assembling the booth.

Then we just chilled, played our Kendama and get people to try them out. Later afternoon, the rest of the boys came and we put on a short show for the people by playing Kendama in front of the booth.

More and more people came to our booth in the evening and things kinda picked up till dark.

We ended up burnt, tired & decided to pack and leave at 10pm.

Here's a little something to help you determine what JKA Approved Kendama Model you are playing with.

Simply take a look at your JKA Seal background colours to check.

Logos from Kendama.de.

JKA approved Kendamas are built in accordance to Model JKA 16-2 in the measurements of the Ken, Cups, Balls and String, also guaranteeing the highest degree of accuracy in manufacturing and consistency in quality.

To date, we only have the TK16s & Ozoras here in Malaysia. More models with new colours will be introduced in the future.

British Kendama Association is very active in promoting Kendama in the UK.

This Year, they are organizing the 'BKA Official Kendama Championship 2009'. Divided into 3 categories; Beginner, Advanced & Speed Trick.

Let's see if we can do the Beginner Level tricks. Remember, 3 tries only.
1. Oozara / Big cup
2. Kozara / Small cup
3. Rousoku / Candlestick
4. Swinging Oozara
5. Tsubame Kaeshi / Orbit (Oozara>Orbit>Ozara)
6. Tomeken / Pull-up-in
7. Kajiya / Tap Back (Oozara>tap ball with ken>Oozara)

Alrite Guys & Girls,

Please welcome the 2nd Batch of Kendamas out from Kendama Malaysia!

These ones are 'Super Kendama' from Nishimatsu Toys, similar to the TK16 Masters from a glance but so different in various ways;

1. The Kozara (small cup) are smaller than the TK16s, but doesn't compromise on your Kozara catches.

2. The Strings are not fastened between the Kensaki (Spike) and the Sarado (Crosspiece) like the TK16s, these models have a 'stapler' like figure bolted to the Sarado for us to tie the strings on to.

3. The strings are thicker but doesn't compromise on the elasticity.

4. The whole construction of these Kendamas are fairly slimmer compared to the TK16s, making it lighter and easier to handle.

I tried playing them for days already, and I am happy with the performance. It does not limit the number of tricks you can do and it is really fun to flip and do fast catches because it is lighter.
For beginners, these are definitely the models that you are after. It is cheaper than the competition type TK16s, so it won't hurt your pocket so much if you plan to start with a small budget.

What is a Kendama?

A kendama (けん玉 or 剣玉 or 拳玉) is a Japanese toy that consists of a hammer-like object with a ball connected to it by a string. The ball (called the tama) has a hole in it, and it rests on a spike (the ken) on the top of the kendama. The hammer is called the "ken." The two extending sides of the ken are concave cups; one is smaller than the other. The larger side is called the oozara (large dish,大皿) and the other is the kozara (small dish,小皿).There is also a middle position cup at the bottom of the handle called the chuzara (smallestN1, middle position cup,中皿) and tougher to play with than the other two cups.

The basic object is to jerk the ball upwards and catch it on one of the concave cups, as well as landing the ball on the spike. More advanced techniques involve combination moves, different landing positions and balances. A Japanese nonprofit organization, the Nihon Kendama Kyokai, adminsters several levels of skill certification for players and authorizes the manufacture of an official kendama design used for certification and in competitions.
